Finally I have found you. I've taken a couple of lessons with teachers in my area and have not learned a single solitary thing. I can't wait to get your course. I knew I could paint something, but I didn't know how to take it to the next step. I don't even know the color wheel per se, I just mix until I get the color I want and I have absolutely no idea about brushes. I know I like them and have developed somewhat of a fetish about them. I seem to buy more and more each time I go to an art store,. hahaha. So, I have a hundred brushs and don't know what they do. I've also orders your cd on brushes. Yippee

I had to laugh through this video because Ethan sounded just like my art instructor. Then when he demonstrates How To glaze in the video and you really learn something to take to the canvas (as I call it). You've heard the saying: you can take that to the bank. And another saying came to mind. When you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day, but when you teach a man to fish, you feed and nourish him for a lifetime. Thanks Ethan for nurturing our painting for a lifetime. Can't wait to get my next set of DVDs. Bless you and yours. Sherry

I was looking around at a few sites because I'm doing a painting for a friend. I never really learned how to paint and when I fooled around with it, that was 25 years ago.
I painted in the PC for fun the last 5 years but that' all.
So I found your site & singed up but got your emails and realized it cost to much for me. I'm sure it's worth it. How ever after watching this last video you made I decided I do like you. So any way I thought I would just tell you your pretty cool and I wish I had some one like you around to learn from. My first painting afte all these years is the last supper. That's what my friend wants. It's huge at least to me. It's funny what I read on your site about painting in the lines is not what we should do but that's how I started this. I wish you could see it. Or maybe not. Well, I got cancer and things changed for me but I'm doing fine. It's just that now my income is not what it was. Don't get me wrong, If I had the money I would get the lessons but If I had the money I would pay off some bills. But just for fun I will be back to your site again and again to see what I can learn.
Thanks for what I got to see and read already.
My site will end soon where I show furniture I use to build until the cancer but if you get a chance to look just for fun, I put the link above.

I think what people are missing here is that your tutorials are an over view of the concepts you are presenting and hopefully ( I don't know as I have not received mine yet,) hopefully the actual instruction has all the detailed info a person needs to grasp that concept so well, that when applying the technique, they will accomplish something wonderful with their art.
You seem to understand the "underpainting" of the basic knowledge needed to be successful at doing oil art. Dose that sound correct?
what you are trying to teach and what is not taught in classes is a fundamental understanding ( crawling before you can walk) Skills to help you create your own not copy someone else.

I love that you're teaching the CRAFT of painting. That's what's always missing in the books (I've never taken a class -- oh one years ago in college but I didn't stick it out). I think I've about decided to take the plunge and get the Platinum course.
(I agree with others here that since you only describe the glazing and don't show it, it's not easy to learn from this particular video. But I don't think that's your typical mode so I'm not worried about it.)

All my instructional videos contain actual painting. Unless the point is to teach a certain principle tool or material. Like my DVD All About Brushes Made - Easy which spends most of the video being a lesson just about brushes. To understand brushes it is much better for me to do explaining, some demos...but not much painting.

The home study course does not come with DVD's.
